Here at BWBacon, we love a good team building session. Whether it’s sharing a beer during happy hour, working together to escape from an 8x8 room, or bonding over a spontaneous team lunch, we believe that real connections outside the day-to-day grind build tenacity.
Team building can sometimes get a negative stigma, especially if it’s forced. But when it’s genuine and helps to build real relationships between employees, it can help increase engagement. Highly engaged employees can increase profits and prevent turnover. In fact, employees with high engagement levels are 87% less likely to leave a company than employees with low engagement levels. Plus, research shows that having a good friend at work can boost productivity levels by up to 50%.
Fostering an awesome company culture takes work. Every member of the organization needs to contribute. It takes way more than kegerators and ping pong tables to nurture a desirable working environment. Real, genuine team building will only happen when the company’s values and purpose are exemplified from the top down to create a collaborative vibe.
In this post, we’re outlining the reasons why we make it a point to set aside time away from our screens to connect on a personal level, both in and out of the office.
We take time out of our busy schedules to hang out, have fun, and do good in the community. And you know what - it’s made us better employees and overall better people. Here are some of the benefits we’ve noticed in our organization.
There’s more positivity in the office. Even on stressful days, we respect one another and have each other’s backs.
By building a cohesive team, we know what we need to do to succeed. And we’re all invested in the organization, emulating our company values through all the work we do.
Our team is happier and as a result, we work harder. We know that if we’re getting our work done efficiently and effectively, we’ll have more time to get to know one another and hang out outside the office.
With every team building event, we learn how to work together on a deeper level. This skill is extremely helpful in the office. When we’re working on a problem or helping a client solve an issue, our knowledge of one anothers’ personalities and traits helps us work together to better serve our customers.
We actually want to be here. Sure, everyone has bad days but because we’ve focused on genuine team building, it’s fun to come into the office and see everyone. When you’re having fun at work, you have more motivation to do your job well.
Communication is everything. It makes or breaks relationships. Taking the time to get to know each other on a personal level allows us to communicate better in the office.
Let’s be real, no one is going to get along all the time. Issues come up in office environments but what matters most is how they’re handled. We’ve found that our investment in team building has led to faster and easier conflict resolutions. Most importantly, we have respect for one another and work together to find a solution that makes the most sense for all.
As they say, teamwork makes the dream work and we’ve seen the proof first hand. We want both employees and employers to feel motivated to take the designated time out of their busy weeks to invest in team building. Creating genuine opportunities to connect helps everyone live the company values and find more joy in their day-to-day at the office.
